prototypes of 2d installations

wire light series

These photographs are of sculpted electroluminescent wire on mirrors. The sources are artificial, but the end result is reminiscent of natural phenomena. There are six pieces total, ranging from 48″ to 72″ in size. They will be mounted behind pieces of polished acrylic. When arranged together the grouping of images embody the idea of collectiveness and co-occurrence; each piece varied but similar, creating a larger unit.

bridge light series

These photographs are installed in a grid of six.  The grid allows the individual images to play off each other in subtle ways.  The grouping conveys the power of seeing multiple sources of illumination at once.  Piercing the darkness, the lights allude to the physicality of walking or driving through a darkened space at night.  The lights could be friendly, reminiscence of those described in science fiction and in UFO sightings.   Or these lights could be searching and blinding, the kind used by authority figures to isolate their suspects during interrogations.  The open & ambiguous presence of these light forms is what I am attracted to.  Each individual element is in thirds or divisible by three to further emphasize their familiarity.

light and movement series

These photographs were taken at the Denver Botanic Gardens. When moving the camera in various ways, I found a rhythm within the lights that was emblematic of the vitality of the atmosphere that evening. By removing the recognition of the source, the images have a quality of being alive and interacting. Through this process I am questioning the presence of light and its possible manifestations unseen by the human eye.

radial system

These are extended exposures of light emitting diodes taken with moving filters altering both their color and form. There are 12 pieces total, arranged in a 2d installation, mounted behind pieces of polished acrylic. Sizes range from 12″ to 48″. I designed a specific shape for the outline of every piece, which was tailored to the forms within each image. Each shape is then arranged with respect to its relationship with the other elements in the overall composition. As an interconnected system, numerous configurations can be created depending upon the space.
